About Dr. James Hurley

Dr. James Hurley was appointed the 16th President of Tarleton State University in August 2019. Under his visionary leadership, Tarleton has become one of the fastest-growing comprehensive public universities in the nation. His transformative initiatives, including the Tarleton Forward 2030 strategic plan, have elevated the university's prominence in academics, research, and student success.

Dr. Hurley has spearheaded record-breaking achievements in fundraising, enrollment, and research. His efforts have positioned Tarleton among the top academic institutions in the U.S. As a first-generation college graduate, he is deeply committed to educational access and equity, working tirelessly to expand opportunities for all students.
